Propain Dirt Zelvy team video: Bala BDS

First big win of the year for our boys

For the 3rd round of the BDS, team Propain Dirt Zelvy headed to Bala, or Rhyd-y-Felin, in North Wales to hit the technical, fast and once again dusty track. Somehow the conditions were near enough the same as last year – baking hot and on raceday dusty corners everywhere. With Phil Atwill getting the top spot in timed training, and Innes Graham having won here back at the 2013 National Champs, the vibe was positive and the boys sure did pull out all the stops.

Phil Atwill was on a blinder all weekend, finishing first in timed training and seeding 5th. He gave the BDS community a good show in the sunshine on Innes’ Propain hardtail, showing off his balance skills to perform the ‘hovering fish’. Check it out at the beginning of the video!

“It got very dangerous, and the times up there were really tight. Every mistake I made, I was like: ‘Damn Innes is coming down behind me and he’ll have me!’ Just little mistakes where I thought he was gonna get me! I’m pretty buzzing off that run though, third  place is sick, really enjoyed it. Buzzing for Innes and also pissed off I didn’t beat him at the same time. But what can you say, this is love!”

James Purvis was having a sketchy old weekend, nosedives and wild moments galore. Put that together with a timing error at the top of his run and it had looked like his luck had ran out. But Purvis pulled a stonker out of the bag after doing his run after the senior category had finished. He came down into third in Juniors and nailed the dusty welsh track.

“I felt like I wasn’t riding stiff, and I didn’t crash, which is always good, so I’m happy. I stalled in a few turns and I cased the stump gap like a bitch and I had a few wild moments which probably scared the crowd a bit.”

Innes Graham was looking fast all weekend, there was no two ways about it. He mentioned he’d won here back in 2013 at National Champs and little did we know that he would blow a packed elite field out of the water and take the top spot on the podium here at Bala BDS.

He opted for a semi slick tyre for raceday, which could have been key to his rolling speed. Tyre choice or not, he’s flying. “It was ragged! I was a bit nervous with everyone gone. Everywhere was quiet and I thought to myself, its go time. I just did the best I could and rode clean. Flawless effort from the team again and mega stoked with the bike.

That’s BDS round 3 wrapped up for us boys. A very successful weekend filled with podiums and not a single muddy bike in sight. We’ll carry these good vibes and momentum forward to the next round of the world cup in Fort William next week! We’ll see you there.
