Matt Walker and Rachel Atherton win Cwmcarn National
Walker steps up to the big leagues in style
That's how you make an entrance! Matt Walker has announced his presence in the senior rankings by taking a win in his first national race as an Elite. The Junior World champion took no time at all to deliver on his potential as he stormed to first place in Cwmcarn. In the women's race, Rachel Atherton returned from breaking her collarbone to claim another National win.
A largely hardpack track in Cwmcarn led to fast and furious action with every section having to be wrung clean for speed and time. Matt Walker seeded first and then put down the fastest time of the day as the last man down the hill to spoil the party of new teammate Danny Hart, who had to settle for second. Mike Jones finished his first race for Mondraker with a third place finish.
Atherton knew she was going to face stiff competition from Tahnee Seagrave but in the end was able to edge her out in race runs. It was great to see Katy Curd come back to Elite racing with a third after a long absence.
