Gawton Winter Series – Fry Hard

Great racing for a great cause

It was an emotional weekend down in Tavistock as the annual Fry Hard race took place in memory of local legend Jordan Fry.

Fry passed away aged just 23 in September 2016. He was an avid racer in the South West and a familiar face at Gawton and Tavi Woodlands. His memorial race was the third round of the Woodland Winter Series ensuring a bumper turnout of over 100 riders.

The track was a fresh cut loam line put in specially for the race that quickly turned into a slop fest. The track will now be a permanent dish on the Tavi Woodlands menu, an awesome tribute to a fallen rider.

The result was a belter race, great for the spectators with loads of young ‘uns  turning out. Once again, Chaz and Mandy Lamley had smashed it in the toughest conditions.

Ryan Tunnell took the win from Will Soffe by nearly three seconds with Ben Deaks grabbing the third fastest time of the day from the Masters’ class. Amy Jones was the fastest woman from Hannah Mason and Tyde D’Souza.

But the race wasn’t about winners or losers but awesome grassroots racing for a good cause. Best of all over £200 was raised for charity at the end of it. Belter.
