Qualifying has replaced seeding at this year's World Championships but with 80 places available out of 116 runners, it wasn't a massive cull and there's no guarantee riders were pushing hard without a huge deal to be gained but a lot to be risked. Rain fell overnight making the brief morning practice session a greasy affair but the track was almost dry again for qualies.
Brook's time of 3:03 gave him 0.6 seconds breathing space over second place Loris Vergier. Brook didn't have the best top sector but as always he finished strong to claim victory.
Connor Fearon was third, Martin Maes continued his incredible run with fourth and the fastest first sector. Aaron Gwin finished fifth
