Ten more bangers from the Worlds at Mont Sainte Anne from the lens of Victor Lucas.
We're dabbling with audio too, so press play on the Rob Warner and Aaron Gwin photos to hear the story.
This shot pretty much sums up 4X today. Sharp rocks and lots of punctures. Nearly all the riders punctured at some point today today - Graves, Prokop amongst others ended up way down the list after losing air on the way to the line.
Aaron Gwin is happy not to be on another transatlantic long haul. He is also getting used to being on the podium, and the dry dusty conditions are certainly more what he likes to race on than the mud and roots of the 'Europe Cup'. Gee Atherton, World Cup Champion. That's a title that must boost your confidence a bit. He's obviously on form and a win here would be an amazing double championship for him.
Roger Rinderknecht has had a year of mixed luck. He clearly has the speed, but there are just so many things that can go wrong in 4X, his races have been a bit 'all or nothing'. He qualified fastest today and maybe this one event will be where it all comes together for him.
Neko Mulally only recently made it back onto the race scene after a nasty injury. Looks like he is all set for a strong finish to the end of the season though, fastest in today's timed DH runs.
Could it be that the best preparation for a race is to have a race the week before where you come so close to winning but just miss out? Peaty and Tracy Moseley are in the same boat there and although the timed runs don't really count for anything, Tracy was quickest in the women.
Greg Minnaar said today was like having a real job. He rode his bike for an hour, did one timed run then spent the rest of the day in meetings and photo session. Must have been in a rush to get to his next appointment though 'cos he went fairly bloody fast.
What the hell is this? Has some old freerider jumped onto the course for a cheeky run? No, it's Rob Warner doing a helmet cam run for Freecaster. You can here him shouting before the whistles go and the smell of burning brakes lingers after he's passed by. Still looked fast though! Listen to the audio for Rob's side of it. Back from a collar bone incident - Romain Saladini is fighting fit and ready for action. He qualified second giving himself a solid advantage when it comes to gate choice.
However much luck is a part of 4X, Caroline Buchanan reminded us that you don't get to be World Champ just by accident. Fastest in women's qualifying today.
