Greg Minnaar will be heading to Hardline this year, not as a racer but to commentate alongside Rob Warner on the main event.
It will be the first time the 3x World Champ has visited Dan Atherton's wild event deep in Snowdonia but he'll be at the bottom watching upwards as the riders fly down not at the top as you might have expected. Selected for his "expert opinions and insights", Minnaar is replacing Red Bull's Jack-of-all-trades Ed Leigh to complete a fully mountain bike commentary team.
Minnaar said “I love coming back to the UK where my career as a professional rider all started. Red Bull Hardline is one of those events I’ve always wanted to be a part of, it’s tough, gnarly and generally looks like a good time. When the opportunity arose for me to join a long-time friend in the commentary booth, there really wasn’t much hesitation. I can now experience this incredible event first hand, feel the pressure of being in the commentary booth and hanging out with all my old friends. Sounds like a pretty awesome weekend!”
There's no suggestion this is the end of Minnaar's race days but if in a few years we see him alongside Warner in the World Cup commentary booth (similar to Neethling or McCaul at Rampage) then you'll get no complaints from us.
The 2018 edition of Red Bull Hardline returns to the hills of Dyfi Valley in the north of Wales on September 15th, 2018. Spectator tickets are now fully sold out but you can watch the action at RedBull.TV.
