Gee Atherton wins Lousã Maxxis Cup: Video/Results

Gee Atherton takes the win at the 2nd round of the Maxxis Cup in Lousã, Portugal.

Local rider and Dirt reader Luis Nogueira was at the scene and said: “Last weekend the round 2 of the Maxxis Cup took place at Lousã,on arguably the best DH track in Portugal. Gee and Dan Atherton were there, as well as loads of other Brits, Spanish riders and even the Norway National DH team.

On a World Cup-like track we even had World Cup-like weather, the track changed from almost dusty in Saturday practice to a muddy, rooty challenge for the final run on Sunday afternoon.

At the end of the day, Gee won as expected, but not by a big margin (1.7s) over second place Toni Ferreiro (Lanzalia Bike) and Portuguese National champion Emanuel Pombo (Liberty Specialized).

The podium was completed with Alex Bond and Jorge Aguin Castro.

Dan Atherton in 6th, Mark Scott 1st junior and 12th overall. Gareth Brewin, Peter Williams and Sion Whitecross also top 10.
