Fort William News:Parrots and Aeroplanes

The Welsh Squadron of DirtTV will be heading up to the World Cup at Fort William tomorrow morning, however we won’t be taking our new airborne division.

We had two methods of aerial videography planned to enhance our World Cup coverage. The first would have been a radio controlled areoplane with a helmet camera mounted to it’s undercarriage. But we got word that the UCI possibly wouldn’t be happy with our low flying antics.

Next we experimented with the second method: strapping a minature camera to a fully trained African Grey Parrot.
The results round our local track looked spectacular so we took Percy the Parrot to Llangollen for NPS round 2 and his first major assignment.

Unfortunately Percy was captured by some keen race spectators and given away to some local bird fanciers.

We have been trying to train a wood pigeon this afternoon, but don’t hold your breath.

The DirtTV plane will be left in the hanger.

Percy the Parrot as seen shortly before his capture in North Wales.

“A VERY unexpected spectator was spotted at a major sporting event in North Wales this weekend – an African Grey Parrot.

The exotic bird, with its distinctive light grey and red feathers, was noticed, perched high up a tree by members of the crowd at the NPS downhill mountain biking event in Llangollen.

After several attempts, the parrot was finally coaxed down by track maintenance team member Guy Williams who then took it to colleague Tony Traske who owns a similar bird.

When the pair called the police regarding their unusual find they were surprised to learn that there were two different local owners who had reported an African Grey missing.”
