Camera Cranes

Videography is really taking off these days with many domestic races being filmed for the web. The filmers are getting more creative, I suppose being inspired by some of the big budget movies, and experimenting with new ways of filming. The camera crane looks like the latest tool in the filmers tool chest. The idea is that you whack the camera on one end and operate it from the other. The really posh ones have a remote screen so you can acurately monitor the shot.

I met Stu Thompson from MTBcut at Moelfre last weekend and he showed me the crane that he and a mate had built.
It’s about 4 metres long and was made from an old aluminium door frame, though saying that there is some sweet engineering on the rig, and it looks like it works well.

I’m currently bidding on Ebay for a job lot of aluminium so stay tuned for the Dirt TV crane and gubbins. I’ll let you know how I get on.

I’m not sure if Stu has filmed anything with the crane yet, but keep an eye on MTBCut for future vids.
