A great idea from the guys at Hiplok, a big sturdy lock for your bike that you can wear as a belt.
Ben from Hiplok popped by the office the other day and showed us the lock which we reckon would be ideal to secure your steed, say, on a trip to the shops, down your local boozer or even if you cycle to the trails.
Hiplok™, the Bike Lock Designed to be Worn on The Body, Launches London, March 15th 2011: Plus 8 Industries Limited, today announced the launch of Hiplok, an innovative new bicycle lock set to revolutionise the ease of travelling on two wheels. With a patent pending design, Hiplok is the first bicycle lock developed specifically to be worn around the waist and brings a distinctive combination of functionality and fashionability to the bike market, an ideal locking system for the growing number of urban riders.
In addition to having gained a rating from internationally recognized accreditation body, Sold Secure, Hiplok’s unique features give added practicality to today’s cyclists. Its integrated and fully adjustable belt fixing, allows the rider to tighten the lock around the waist without actually locking the device, offering a level of portability never seen before. Reflective and bright coloured logos on the outer sleeve, sit prominently on the waist providing added safety for night riding.
A number of colourways will be available at launch and with personalization options to follow, Hiplok bridges the gap between security device and customisable accessory.
Hiplok is the brainchild of product designers John Abrahams and Benjamin Smith who developed the lock in response to their own requirement for a more portable bike lock. Smith, a bike enthusiast who has spent a number of years in product development within the global bicycle industry commented:
“So many times I have heard of bicycles being stolen on a “quick trip to the coffee shop”, when the cyclist couldn’t be bothered to take a cumbersome lock. The cool thing about Hiplok is that it is as effortless to take with you as your favourite belt – it is a secure lock which also offers convenience, comfort and individual style.”

Abrahams added, “We’ve piloted the Hiplok with riders from Los Angeles to London and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The idea of having a lock which is easy to carry and looks good has ignited interest from across the board – couriers, commuters and cool kids have already asked if we can make the first Hiploks to match their bikes!”
Hiplok is available at www.hiplok.com and will retail from £69.99.
