Aston Hill returned to the racing fold this weekend with its first downhill race of the year. Attracting entrants from as far afield as France, a total of 190 riders turned up to sample the tight switchbacks, roots and drops of the infamous Black Run. With £2500 worth of prizes and BC points up for grabs, there was plenty to fight for.

From what we’ve heard, it was an awesome day, with the weather being good and the track running fast. There were some pretty interesting results too, with the French team RYDE Racing taking three of the podium places. Ben Deakin and Stephen Simms, the top two riders in the hardtail category, made the top 25 overall. Local boy John Holbrook took the Elite win ahead of Jeremy Callow and Joe Winston, with Scott Beaumont coming in fourth.

With nearly 200 riders doing around 800 runs, decent prizes and BC points on offer, Aston Hill is back on the race scene in a big way. Inspired by this weekend’s success, and rider demand, a second race is already on the cards.
