Four new full face downhill helmets at Eurobike 2017

New lids from SixSixOne, Bell, Poc and Kali

There may not have been many new bikes at Eurobike this year but there were a glut of new full face downhill helmets on offer from some big players. Let’s take a look:

Poc Coron Air Spin

The Scandi-cool, minimalist look of the Poc Coron may look cool but it doesn’t do a great deal for ventilation. That’s where the new Coron Air Spin comes in.

Cooler, lighter (in fact, under a kilo) and with a new rotational impact technology, the Air Spin is aimed at downhill and enduro riders who don’t need the full brunt of the standard Coron. The SPIN technology (Shearing Pad Inside) is said to offer equal or even superior protection to MIPS while also adding to the comfort of the helmet.

The Coron Air is also a bit cheaper than the Coron itself. We’ve not got any UK pricing but $275 is the US benchmark.

Bell Super DH

Taking the blueprint of the Bell Super 2 and 3, the Super DH offers increased protection (bringing it up to DH certification levels) while still giving the flexibility of a removable chin guard.

There is no intention of this replacing the Full 9 but it should prove to be a great option for serious enduro racers – especially as it only comes up at 850 grams on the scales.

Expect the production version of the Bell Super DH to drop in December.

SixSixOne Reset

The first SixSixOne full-face helmet that hasn’t just been popped out of an open mould, the Reset represents a big step forwards for the brand. They have kept the low price point (you should be able to pick this up for £75) but with their own original design they’ll step away from the likes of O’Neal and 7 Protection.

There are some awesome colourways and we’re getting in a tester here soon to see if this really delivers on a budget.

Despite the low price, it meets all the relevant safety standards and hits the scales at just over a kilo. With three shell sizes and seven fits there should be a lid for everyone, expect to see them around November.

Kali Shiva 2.0 carbon

There probably hasn’t been a better test for a full face helmet than Nicholi Rogatkin’s infamous crash at Red Bull Rampage. Kali have taken what they learned from that and integrated it into the new Kali Shiva.

Most important in the design is the Low Density Layer inserts that help to deal with rotational forces. Rogatkin had these glued into his helmet at the last minute for his Rampage crash and is probably very glad he did! They’re now included as standard.

The Shiva 2.0 has already been out a couple of months but you should definitely add it to your shopping list if you’re likely to be taking any big bails soon.
