Eurobike 2012: Five Ten

Eurobike is once again in full swing, and after some internet issues we’re finally now in position to start showing you some of the goodies, this time from Five Ten…

First up are the new, and much talked about Freerider VXI shoes which could well be the Impacts biggest rival. These shoes are a fair bit lighter and Five Ten have put everything they know into these shoes. The stiffness of the sole seems spot on and there are loads of little details that should make these the comfiest Five Ten’s yet. The biggest change though is with the sole…

As you can see the majority of the pedal interface area has now been made completely flat. This is to alleviate the old ‘so sticky you can’t move your foot’ feeling that some riders don’t like. Five Ten reckon the overall grip on the pedal is almost as good as the original design, yet you can change the position of your foot without having to lift it off the pedal. Only time will tell if that really is the case, but if it is then we wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes an option on the Impacts.

Talking of Impacts, the classic has seen a few changes in the shape of a slightly less bulky sole, a stronger toe box, and some other little tweaks, but understandably nothing that major has happened to these shoes, as after all they’re Five Ten’s biggest seller. This new colour will no doubt please the Impact fans though.

Finally there’s these pretty rad looking new ‘Dirtbag’ shoes which are aimed more towards the dirt jump end of the market, but I think their appeal will be wider than that. The Stealth Marathon sole is probably their key feature, and although it doesn’t provide quite as much grip as the Stealth soles that we’re used to Five Ten reckon it still puts most of the competition to shame and this stuff lasts three times as long as their stickier stuff, plus it’s non-marking. The lower £60 prcie tag is the icing on the cake.
