Devinci Django

New 120/130mm 27.5" trail slasher from Manic St, Chicoutimi

Mid Atlantic, mid February deep in the undergrowth of central caldera of the Furnas volcano, Devinci unearthed two key bikes for the Quebec brand for 2016. One of these is the new Django trail bike featuring 120mm rear/130mm front and all about fast geometry, lightweight and with a lively ride characteristic.

During our brief visit to the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores archipelago we had the size large Django for a quick shakedown. Featuring 67.5 head angle, 1175mm wheelbase, 334mm bottom bracket the bike is a good size for riders upto 6′ but it comes in a good range of other sizes and specifications. Available in four sizes with 460mm reach on the size large bike, and 20mm increments in sizing smaller and larger up to the 480mm reach extra large bike.

First up was some lengthy and punchy climbs where a flick of the Monarch switch offers good resistance for ideal climbing characteristics. The seat tube angle is reasonable and the Sram X01 gearing everything we expected from the benchmark groupset. Internal cable routing and clean lines don’t interfere with the ride which is progressive and lively using its travel sparingly.

After dodging the fumaroles and mud pools where many of the locals cook the well-known stew dishes in the geysers we hit some short downhill sections and it was here the bike’s crisp ride characteristic came to the fore. Devinci make the Django in carbon or aluminium, but the Uk will only be bringing the former into the country.

The next instalment from Devinci will be a bike with much harder intentions – stay tuned for the 30th March launch date.
