Banshee Rune V2 – the review
The Banshee Rune V2 is actually the first Banshee in the UK badged up with the name Banshee. Due to a copyright wrangle with Halfords, who sold the Carrera Banshee, the Canadian company Banshee previously had to name their bikes Mythic in the UK, which was confusing. But everything is hunky dory now, so that’s good.
So, Pat from Ison Distribution popped by the other day with this Rune V2, which is Banshee’s 160mm all mountain bike rig that has been re-designed for 2013 with a slacker 65º head angle (in it’s slackest setting), lower BB. Flip chips on the drop outs also let you tweak the geometry. These drop outs are also interchangeable, a larger set will allow you to run the bike with 650b wheels if you want to dabble with the bigger hoops.
Dirt tester Jonesy will be running the bike in 26″ mode then with the 650b wheels. It’ll be interesting to see how a bike designed primarily as a 26-er will work as a 650b-er. So stay tuned for his pearls of wisdom in the magazine soon.
But for now here’s a quick look at the machine.
The bike comes as a frame only. This built up one tipped the office scales at 14.2kg or 31lbs, with out pedals.
A 44/56mm tapered head tube, which allows the use of a zero stack lower headset cup, even with a tapered fork steerer for reduced stack height.

The flip chips on the dropouts change the BB height in 1/4″ or 6.35mm increments and the head angle from 65.0, 65.5 , 66.0.
To run the bike with 650b wheels you’ll need to buy the dropout kit for £79.99 and buy a new pair of forks of course.
