Fox has been in the helmet game for many years and this pedigree shows in the latest Rampage Pro carbon helmet. This very well detailed and slickly styled lid has all the boxes ticked when it comes to the wish list for full-face protection.

Ventilation, sizing, visibility and increased safety are highlights here, all wrapped up in a state-of-the-art carbon laminate shell. Let’s take a look at the details that have impressed us here at Dirt…

As with all clothing and kit, fit is hugely important for both safety and riding comfort and is very much a personal thing. We’ve had plenty of new products from Fox through the doors at Dirt over the last year and they’re on a roll with some really bold designs. The Metah and ProFrame helmets are stunning designs.

Fox has put a great deal of thought into the fit and construction of the Rampage Pro, with no fewer than five size options built from one of two outer shell and three EPS inner sizes. This gives a very accurate and comfortable fit over a broad size range, keeping weight and bulk realistically low for your given size. Attention to detail here is the difference between a helmet like this and a budget option.

‘This slickly styled lid has all the boxes ticked when it comes to the wish list for a full-face – low weight and accurate sizing results in an increase in comfort too”

The outer carbon shell is very well ventilated. 17 ports duct air through and out the rear of the lid very effectively regardless of the weather and even pushing back up the hill with the helmet on overall comfort is still high. The removable Dri-Lex™ liner padding has a real quality feel and dries quickly too. A compression headliner is another detail that adds further comfort. The wide opening gives great vision all round, and the visor adjusts easily (and stays put) over a good range, also shifting air through the front brow vents.

Overall safety is increased through a combination of accurate fit, good strap design, great sizing as well as the very well tested construction. Fox use the MIPS protection system – additional technology, which reduces rotational forces on the brain caused by angled impacts to the head. A good move.

The Rampage Pro is light, very comfortable, has great design details and is a good price for a premium carbon shell full–face lid. This Fox lid and the Troy Lee D3 sit at the top of our wish list.
