New Fox Clothing – Ride All Weather

Beat the elements with the new Downpour Pro and Bionic range

With many years of experience producing clothing and protection for both MX and mountainbiking, Fox has an ability to mix technical fabrics with a great fit with a good dose of style.

The latest Fox Flexair riding kit has impressed us, along with the recently launched Metah trail helmet – all great looking kit with plenty of well thought through design details, material tech and a truly desirable moto look.

As we head into the autumn, trail conditions will be getting wetter (and staying that way) and the weather colder, making riding more challenging. It’s time to add some layers to your riding kit as well as fitting the mud tyres. A few key pieces of clothing will work well with your summer kit and keep you comfortable and riding for longer, whether it’s an all day session on the hill or an hour night riding on a local loop.

Fox have made some updates for 2016 and are a serious contender when choosing technical clothing for the wet and colder months. They’ve upgraded the fabrics, looked at getting the best fit for charging hard off-road (there’s no road riding kit here…) and added some really great details. With feedback from sponsored riders, who train in all conditions, we’re confident that this kit is up there with the best out there – and better looking too.

“Designed, developed and proven by the best riders in the world”

Inspired by Fox’s 40-plus years leading the moto industry, this jacket was designed for the dirt. With unmistakable Fox styling, the Downpour Pro features premium materials, fittings and construction that provide trail specific on bike performance. With a trimmer fit and a new 3-layer stretch Trumotion fabric, this updated jacket will move with you and not interfere with your riding whether on a wet day uplifting on the DH bike or a fast few hours at a trail centre. A dropped tail and shorter front work well in the riding position, keeping you protected without a compromise to comfort. Adjustable cuffs and hem keep the spray out along with sealed seams and a baffled main zip. If the breathable fabric is working at its limit, there is added stealth venting through the chest pockets – laser cut perforations – that let the heat out.

Storage is good – there are two well placed hand warmer pockets for off the bike and a pair of chest pockets for essentials such as keys and phone. The previous model’s stowaway hood has now gone – keeping weight and pack size at a minimum and the fit a little less boxy.

With great attention to detail, the right features, and a really comfortable stretch fabric the Fox Downpour Pro looks like a great investment for the dedicated four season rider.

Nobody likes rear mudguards. A pair of waterproof riding shorts however, such as these from Fox, will keep you riding in all weathers and protect you from falling rain, spray from the track and mud. No compromises to riding mobility and no clutter on the bike.

The Fox Downpour shorts are made using the same durable 3 layer Trumotion 4-way stretch fabric as the Downpour Pro jacket, providing proven all-weather, trail specific performance, with long-term reliability – important, as the fabric is sitting between you and a muddy saddle or the seat in the uplift bus.

These are very well cut yet cleanly styled shorts – after all you don’t want any excess fabric flapping around getting covered in mud and water and holding you back. Cut with a 13” inseam they sit well with most kneepads but aren’t overly long, maybe a touch shorter than your usual shorts. The breathable Trumotion fabric works well at controlling the temperature and the 4–way stretch works with you when pedalling.

Welded construction with sealed seams keeps the bulk and weight low, with silicone grip patches on the inner waistband helping the shorts stay in position. A side pocket on each hip gives off-the-bike storage and the zips are water-resistant.

Waterproof shorts are an often over-looked piece of kit, but they can be a game-changer. Once the weather turns, a well thought pair such as the Fox Downpour will keep you out there on the hill for longer, regardless of the conditions. These are super-light, minimalist and a world apart from many of the heavy and over-built options on the market.

The Bionic Pro Softshell is the ultimate cold-weather riding jacket and will keep you on the trail in freezing temperatures. The 3-layer stretch waterproof and windproof softshell body is designed to give great on-bike performance, yet looks good off the bike too. With this Fox softshell, you’re really combining two garments in one: an outer layer of weather defense and a mid layer of insulation. For cold and dry conditions or showery winter days this type of jacket can be the most comfortable choice, with just a light summer top or base layer underneath.

With a high collar and low drop tail for added coverage against the elements, the detailing is good and well thought through. The TruDri bonded mesh lining wicks moisture well and keeps you dry on the inside while the soft and stretchy out works with your body however hard you’re pushing on and shrugs of all but the heaviest rain.

Two lower front pockets keep your hands warm while you’re waiting for the uplift truck or hanging in the café with a zipped chest pockets keep essential safely secure when riding.

With a style and cut that you’d be happy to wear off the bike as well as on, this is a great piece of clothing to throw in the kit bag for a weekend away. Versatile, hardwearing and comfortable it will see plenty of use from October through to the spring.
