Darren Berrecloth is widely regarded as the number one Freerider in the world. Whether it is in competition or shooting with a camera crew, he throws down the biggest and most technical moves with skill, confidence and style. He is the man to watch at events like Crankworx and the new breed of Slopestyle events that have been popping up around the world. His rider sections are always the high points of any bike movie.
Modern day Freeriding is now all about spins, hucks and tech, a strange mix of BMX, FMX and MTB. Berrecloth is at the cutting edge of the sport, helping to change the face of mountainbiking.

Front brake on the left or right?
Come on, the left of course.

Flats all the way.
Tell us about your bike?
It’s the Specialized SX Trail, some funky colours and don’t know if you’re aware of it yet but this is the best bike on the planet.
Describe your bike set up?
Manitou 6 inch Travis in the front with medium hardness spring and Ti Manitou on the back. SRAM drivetrain, Race Face parts, Bombshell wheels and Hayes brakes.
How do you run your suspension?
For comps it depends. If it’s jibby I run it stiff but if it’s big mountain I run it medium stiffness.
Have you made any modifications to the bike?
No not really, the bike is dialled in as it is.
Do you go in for Titanium bolts and lightweight stuff?
Ya, keep it as light as possible.
Any top secret stuff on your bike?
The new Hayes brake it kicks ass.
What do you think is the most important part on your bike?
The frame design of course.
Do you ever run the Demo 8?
Ya when I wanna go fast and big over the chunder.
What parts do you break the most?
How would you describe your riding style?
Dunno, I just ride and have a good time and not too worried about it.
What about colours, you’ve had some pretty crazy ones?
Ya, I just tell my guy Allain at Specialized to surprise me with a crazy colour and he did.
