ENVE COMPOSITES DH BAR

We’re right in at the top end of the market here with this downhill rated bar from US carbon specialists Enve. In last year’s Dirt 100 our premium bar pick was the Thomson titanium, but this Carbon DH bar has proven itself in the last twelve months.

‘How can you justify the price?’ is a question we frequently hear when we get into this area of boutique brands and the products they offer. Well the test riders here at Dirt push bikes and kit to the limit, and our man Ieuan Williams doesn’t hold back – if we need to find a product’s limits then he’s going to search for them. And so it is that this carbon bar has earned a place in the 2017 Dirt 100. Read on…

The market if full of light and stiff carbon DH bars, all with good dimensions and a proven track record for strength. Renthal, Easton and RaceFace have been reliable choices and favourites here at Dirt HQ.

At a broad 800mm width with a 23mm rise the Enve bar’s dimensions suited our Canyon Sender test bike perfectly. This carbon bar has the same 5 degree upsweep as the well-regarded Renthal Fatbar but a shade less backsweep at 7 degrees. We paired it up with the matching Enve direct mount stem, with a 31.8mm clamp, and put the package to test.

Back last summer, an almighty crash from a serious height put Ieuan in hospital and with some nasty injuries. A misjudged landing on unchartered territory. Ieuan is back on the bike now, the same bike that took the hit…

After a comprehensive inspection in the workshop it seemed that there was little to report. No real damage, and amazingly, the bar and stem which took some of the impact, were intact and ready for more. We were, and still are, impressed at what this carbon bar has put up with through the test period and can wholeheartedly recommend it as product that can justify its high price tag.

The Enve DH is a proven bar showing true strength without a compromise to ride quality or feel. More rise options would make it near perfect.
