A bumper field took the trip up to the Bill to use it as a World Cup warm-up and it ensured some great racing. Scotland put on its usual performance and high winds meant that the chairlift was shut on Friday, leaving loads of riders twiddling their thumbs. Saturday was a classically grey affair but finally the sun broke through on race day. It was still swirly though and riders had to be careful on the exposed top section and the motorway.

This race is quickly becoming processional for Hart, he has not lost a National here since 2015 and came to this one looking strong from the off. Seeding didn't go to plan and he ended up back in sixth. He turned it round in finals though and left the rest of the field six seconds in his wake. Second place fell to local lad Greg Williamson with Faustin Figaret earning his plane fare over in third.

Rachel Atherton came to Fort William after dislocating her shoulder here last year but blew away any doubts to take her second Nationals win of the season. Rach seeded fourth but overhauled Curd, Cappelari and top seed Seagrave to win by six seconds.
