Top Five: Multitools - Lezyne SV-10

Each week we’ll now be featuring our top five pick from a different category, with one product released each day (in no particular order), and this week it’s the turn of the ‘can’t live without’ multitool, with the first one being the excellent Lezyne SV-10…

Which multitool you prefer is always going to come down to personal preference, and it’s more than likely that there will be some weird bit on your bike that even the most all singing and dancing multitool won’t be able to help you fix, but with a few well designed basics a multitool like this one will be able to help get you home in the vast majority of situations.

The reasons why we particularly like this one is that it’s small, simple, light and well made. The last bit is crucial cos the last thing you want is for a tool to break and just add to your problems. Small means it will even fit into a pocket, and because there are no real sharp edges it’s unlikely to do much harm in a crash. At 101g it’s one of the lighest tools we’ve ever used, yet it still packs all the essentials such as 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8mm allen keys, T25 and T30 Torx keys, a phillips screwdriver, and finally a decent chain tool. All the tools are forged from stainless steel before being CNC machined, and because each tool pivots in the centre it makes then easier to use. At just 6cm long you don’t get much leverage on the tools but we’ve never found it to be a problem out on the trail.

Finally this tool comes with a kind of stretchy fake leather cover to stop it rattling around in your pocket/rucksack, and if you feel the need for more or less tools then Lezyne do of course have a whole load of other offerings that cater for different tastes. Also, if the cost of this one seems a bit high then Lezyne also make some cheaper versions that aren’t made from quite such fancy materials. Saying that, one of these will last you for years so we reckon it’s worth the outlay.
