Orange’s first production bike, the Clockwork.
Iconic bikes are something often left to the back of the shed and the dusty pages of a shelf heavy with magazines. From Halifax came a classic, a bike that went a long way to defining an era of this fair sport we call biking.
Today whenever I see an Orange Clockwork the rider receives a nod of appreciation, not just for maintaining a classic bike but for simply buying one in the first place. The name, the graphics, the honesty, this little rigid bike had it all back in the day and will leave eBay bidders and collectors scampering over each other to own one in decent nick.
Combining Tange Infinity tubing with more relaxed geometry the Clockwork gave Orange founders Lester and Steve what they wanted and that was a reflection of the UK riding scene. This all round bike was capable of racing and all day expeditions, namely the ‘all round range’, yep, the O-range.
As with any sport things change and so do the rules, one such rule is the testing that frames have to withstand before they can be thrashed by the likes of you and I. So from Chromoly, which would need to be heavy to pass today’s testing standards, Orange have moved to an aluminium frame.
Clad with some pretty special parts from Hope they have brought back that classic purple anodising and then picked some top end components to finish off the build. Check out the gallery below for a dose of hardtail bike porn.

We’ve come a long way over these 25 years, with plenty of adventures along the way, but one thing that hasn’t changed, and will never change, is that obsession with to making the best bikes possible. The Clockwork 25 reflects this obsession. Here’s to 25 more years.

Fittingly sprayed in Sterling Silver to celebrate a quarter of a century, each bike comes with an individually numbered commemorative metal seatube badge and custom Clockwork 25 decals throughout.
Purple anodised Hope hubs, rotors, BB, seatclamp, headset, skewer, brake caliper bore and reservoir caps give a nod to the past, while being very much at the cutting edge. Both the 28 spoke hubs and brake reservoir caps are custom laser engraved with special-edition Clockwork 25 artwork to match the frame’s decals.
Up front the top-flight 120mm RockShox SID forks with Fast Black stanchions offer slick looks and even slicker performance, the perfect match to the frames light-and-fast remit.
Finishing off this silver bike is the gold standard in cockpit components from Thomson, combining their glossy-black carbon bars and deep-black anodised stem and seatpost.
Fast and fun are a given with a Clockwork, the Clockwork 25 adds real exclusivity into the mix too.
