Ti-Springs.com 7 Speed DH Conversion Kit
If you walk around the pits at a World Cup race and look at the rear end of pretty much any bike, the chances are that you’ll only find 7 gears. SRAM of course have recently released their DH specific X01 DH groupset that comes 7 speed as standard, but riders have been ditching excess cogs for years now in an attempt to jettison as much weight as possible. Seven gears are as much as any DH racer really needs, and so it makes sense to swap out some heavy cogs for some much lighter spacers.
Getting hold of the necessary spacers has never been that easy, and recently we’ve started to spot some neat little custom made spacers that also help to ensure the chain doesn’t drop off the largest sprocket. I even heard a few fans at Fort William asking the mechanics where they can get hold of one from, but the answer was “you can’t really, we have these custom made”. Fear not though, because thanks to the guys at Ti-Springs.com that is no longer the case.
This new 7 speed DH conversion kit of theirs contains everything you need in order to cut your number of gears down, and it looks super neat too. Installation is super easy, and if you click on the gallery below you can see what it looks like once installed.

Pretty factory hey! At £25 we think the price is reasonably fair considering that these are being made to order in small quantities. Yes it would be great if it was even cheaper, but hey if you want something as specialist as this then it’s never going to be super cheap. We’d say that if you’re looking to cut down the number of gears on your bike then this is the neatest and easiest solution that we’ve seen so far, so we think it’s a price worth paying.
Helpfully, Ti-Springs.com have also made some short videos to guide you through installation and setup…
