2012 Dirt 100: Specialized Storm Control

Choosing between these tyres and the Bontrager XR Mud for the best 50/50 trail tyre is a tricky one, and that’s why we’ve ended up having to include both.

The differences might be relatively small, but they’re definitely noticeable. The XR Mud is longer lasting and faster rolling, but with its slightly softer compound and more widely spaced blocks this tyre wins in the grip stakes, whether that be in the mud or out of it. Only you can decide which qualities are most important to you, but either way you’ll be getting a set of tubeless–ready tyres that can take on pretty much anything brown tinged that you throw at them.

I’ve ben running this in the PNW for the last year, obviously in the winter months. It’s an AMAZING tire. The only downfall is the size, Specialized needs to make this in a 2.3, the 2.1 as it is pretty damn low volume and width.
