Red Bull: The Atherton Project: Episode 11
October 16th, 2009 @ 4:30 PM
Following her training injury earlier this year, Rachel is back on the bike and back on the pace as she takes on the gnarly trails of Schladming, Austria. Shes fit and focused and looking to reclaim her position as world number one in 2010. Meanwhile, brother Dan has his eyes set on a strong finish in the Schladming 4X finals. Can he end the year on a high? While Dan gets his lines down on the rebuilt 4X track, we gain an insight into the life of Animal Commencals firey photographer, Sven Martin as he hunts for the perfect shot. Its been a solid year for 2008 World Champ Gee Atherton, and with a little more luck he could well take the World Cup title next year, but for now hes focused on putting it all on the line in Schladming, and he does just that.

I really like this episode, it’s so reassuring for anyone out injured to see Rachel’s happiness at getting back on it

Think its stupid to be honest, she gets hit by a pick up with no helmet on which results in this surgery she has had then first ride out she rides schladming with no torso armour!

dingo…what?
when you get hit by a motor vehicle a little plastic helmet doesn’t make that much of a difference…especially to your shoulder, which was her injury. Is it her fault that she got hit by someone else, because she wasn’t wearing a lid? As for riding with or without armour first ride back, that’s her choice, armour can be distracting physically and mentally…maybe she’s good enough to know how she wants to do it?
Yep, when I or someone I know comes back from an injury and is stoked about being able to ride, my first reaction is usually “I think it’s pretty stupid” as well!!!
NOT

Helmet would obviously not have saved her from the damage she sustained in the accident. But I can understand how you could see her at Schladders with no protection and cringe a bit. I personally hate armour, it distracts me. But then it has without doubt saved a few collarbones in some stacks (and not because I was distracted lol).
I saw it and thought ’shit, no armour’, but she’s pro, knows her limits better than most, it’s like Steve Irwin with his kid and the croc.

“Is it her fault that she got hit by someone else”
It was her fault…she was riding up the wrong side of the road. She’s lucky some nerve damage and a dislocated shoulder was all she got.
That said armour is a personal choice.
