Over 1 Millions online viewers of the World Cups

The UCI have released some very interesting figures this week regarding how many people are watching the Redbull live streams of the world cups. This live coverage has transformed the fans view of DH racing and has obviously become essential viewing for huge numbers of people around the globe.

Overall the live video streams have had 1.26 million views during the 2013 season, with the downhill coverage being the most popular with over 1 million views. Thats a lot of people listening to Warner’s own incoherent streams. These streams are still free to view thanks to a deal signed between the UCI and Redbull Media house in 2012. In my own opinion, this seasons coverage has been the best we have seen. More cameras and more reliable connection but I do miss Warner’s pissed up antics. Bring back the booze!

The most popular event of the year was Val Di Sole in Italy with 361’370 viewers across all disciplines. The 12th world cup at Fort Bill was the most popular of its type, DH only, with 235’357 views, 5 times as many as the most popular XC eliminator! Erhmm.

The DH viewing public has grown 22% over last season, I’d like to see similar figures for Rob’s Dirty Business!

  1. Mark

Gotta admit, it runs perfectly, more cameras, just awesome. Was REALLY impressed this year with it. Watched every single event. In past years I only watched world champs. I still drink Monster though, sorry.

  2. Doug

Freaking ace news for downhill. Hopefully this means the UCI will add some more rounds, I doubt it but it would be great to see more races. Coverage was great this year, thank you Red Bull.

  3. Paco Loco

Yes – more rounds please UCI!
Coverage is great, just wish it was longer.

  4. Sinista

Its brilliant getting to watch the races – and free to boot. Thank you Red Bull!

  5. Bombr

We love the fact that Rob gives these streams so much gusto! Didn’t miss a single Downhill stream this year and they actually worked unlike the year before!

  6. Eoin

Thanks to Freecaster for getting it all up and started, but Red Bull were great this year: my stream never cut out, got decent resolution very little prerecorded footage of the upper sections.
Some people miss the fact that they dont show the top 80 guys anymore, but even Warner said the top 80 to 40 qualifiers he doesnt really know and he cant make it entertaining for that long.

Red bull for live events + Dirt for enduro recaps = greatness.

  7. Ben

Yeah, because pissed-up antics sell the sport. I’ve enjoyed the coverage because it’s been more serious and more focussed and I feel I could tell my mates to watch it and not be laughed at…

  8. Gareth

New to this DH lark – coming from BMX, this is by far the best way to get insights and background to DH in general – loved every minute – cannot wait til next year.

  9. SI Paton

Credit to Red Bull for a quality live stream.
To be honest though when Eurosport was covering the World Cups and showing the Moto GP on a Sunday night. Then at the end of the programme it said stay tuned for downhill Mountainbiking you had viewing figures for one round that we’re insane compared to what they get now. Really did bring it to the masses..
