RENTHAL STEM
Renthal obviously like to keep people on their toes cos this new stem of theirs bears no resemblance whatsoever to the prototype one we saw earlier on this year. Anyway, this production version is pretty unique in its design. Rather than having a removable face plate for the bars, the entire stem splits in two horizontally. If you change your bars regularly then it’s a bit more hassle, but then again who does? The reason why Renthal have gone for this design is because they’ve found that it allows them to remove more material from the middle section whilst retaining plenty of strength and stiffness. The result is a stem that weighs in at just 137g! At the moment only this 50mm version with a ten degree rise exists, but we’ve been told there’s more on the way, and that there’ll be plenty of colour options coming too. The price is still to be finalised, but the word on the street is that it’s going to be very competitive…
