French Enduro rider tests positive for a banned substance

Our sister site bikemagic.com picked up on the shocking news that a French enduro rider has tested positive for a masking agent and is currently serving a 6 month ban.

The positive test occurred in November 26th, 2011 at the Megavalanche Reunion Island event and the details were announced late last year.
Curiously the rider’s identity is being kept anonymous and the seemingly rather lenient ban is being served in the off season.

The French websitejustaboutvelo.com have more news.

  1. le Rosbif Sospellois

His name will come out soon enough.

    1. Mark

there’s already a name being mentioned on the intertubes, i’d ‘Love’ to tell you but it’s not really my place

  2. Eoin

Additional details from endurotribe. Apparently two racers were caught for different substances, one was not reprimanded. The racer here was taking a substance used to hide performance enhancing drugs. The anonymity of the racer was preserved as exposing him would lead to a “double sentence”, whereby backlash from fans and competitors could lead to racers losing their livelihood.

    1. Mr B

I could be wrong but I think some of the banned ‘performance enhancing drugs’ only enhance a riders ability to relax / enjoy regae music etc, if you catch my drift. Possibly why one of the two was not repremanded?

  3. le Rosbif Sospellois

@Eoin… what, then is the point of testing? I’d rather one (cheating) racer lose his career than the whole sport lose its credibility!!

    1. Eoin

Just translating. My feeling are similar to yours. This cheater effectively goes unpunished, but without more details it is impossible to judge whether he should have been sanctionned more heavily. Tu habites vraiment a Sospel?

      1. le Rosbif Sospellois

        bein ouais :)

  4. Part Time

Oh dear, poor old enduro, barley out of nappies and already being dragged through the mud…..

    1. Flea

      You put barley in nappies?

  5. Andy

so if the ban was from September 2012, it must be someone who raced at the 2011 Mega in Reunion, but not the 2012 race.

  6. bling bling

Remember – ride safe and always wear your body amour!

  7. Johann

just a question related to the title: are you any sure the guy is french considering his name remains secret? OK statistically chances are he’s french but who knows?

    1. Eoin

Well he is under the french federation and raced the mega-reunion which pretty much only french riders go to.

      1. Johann

Alright, i had missed the french fed thing…

  8. brians mother

He’s not the Messiah, he’s a very naughty boy

    1. Jonzo

He is the messiah… I should know, I follow quite a few myself!

  9. Cheese sandwich

    Karim amour?

    1. Cheese dick

Yeah, Karim Amour, he’s french isn’t he? Or mabe Nico. Or Absalon maybe? I know, let’s just throw any french riders names out there, lets just speculate and make wild assumptions, who cares if we tarnish an innocent rider’s name, eh? What a knob

    2. Trip

That’s the rumour yes. Shame if it is as I quite liked the guy.

  10. Stubacca

It’s not the first time, happened a few years ago but i’m sure the Avalanche series didn’t do anything. Just couldn’t race any UCI sanctioned events. It was a French rider but can’t remember which one.

    1. nozes

      Frank Parolin,back in 2010,I think.

      1. Johann

He’s also been banned from the french Enduro Series even before it becomes the french cup.
I’m no fully convinced it’s a good thing to ban people for life for a first case. No one ever made a mistake? Crossing at a red light and you get your driving licence withdrawn for ever would suck don’t you think?

  11. ronin

if mr.b is correct it’s an mtb repack tradition to take safety breaks

  12. downhill38

Bling Bling said it all ! 😉 Wait & See

  13. TimDGoodwin

will mr ? get a spot on Oprah on Thursday to confess his innocence?

  14. dan j

Leave the poor bugger alone, It’s not like these guys are making huge money. It is not done for some crazy power advantage, it is done to help heal injuries and let the career continue.

  15. luap

The penalty is no where near harsh enough. I say ban the feker for life. If they don’t start now with harsh penalties no one will take it seriously. And it will spread through Enduro unabated. Do we really want our sport to go the way of that absolute joke of a sport: road riding…?

  16. le jacques
  17. mike

I could not find any official results of the race but the absolon brothers got first and second with wildhaber (sui) in 3rd and amour in 4th spot… I don´t know how the test at the megas, but I don´t think they test more riders as at a world cup downhill. at worldcups they tested rank 1 to 3 and they took one rider from the finals by lot… so I guess it´s remy or julien absalon.
I read mr edwards sayed something like doping makes no sence with such a technical sport which really is bullshit to me as we know how hard these races are on the conditional side. For sure doping plays a bigger role in a pure endurance sport but it can make the difference in a downhill or endurance downhill… and I read that especially 2011 the conditional side was even more important because there were some fires in the woods at the top wich made the course easier to ride…
