Llangollen gets a third downhill track on the hillside.
I’ts a bit early to start calling this Winter Digging or even Autumn digging, lets call it late Summer digging.
Emma Runciman beamed over news of some recent late Summer Digging in the Llangollen hills.
Llangollen Track 3 Dig Day – Emma Runciman
Lazy Bank Holiday Sunday? No, not for the team of 20+ volunteers who turned up to help Martin and Wayne from One Giant Leap Llangollen dig track three into their hillside.
The plan for the track is to make it mellower than the two NPS tracks on the same hillside. There are some great looking step-downs, berms and loads of table tops are planned.
Martin who’s done lots of the digging on his own until now said he was ‘humbled by the amazing response to our request for help. More progress than I had ever dared to hope for has been made. We had the legendary assistance of Steve Parr in creating a more sustainable and survivable track that looks ideal for training, whilst still being exciting and challenging.’
Hard at work at the top of the track – not sure what the boys have spotted in the bushes.
Berm sculpting in action just beneath a step down near the bottom of the new track.
Matt McClay clearing rotten wood from the new hip jump.
Creative digging is encouraged by Wayne and Martin. The track was just going to go straight past here but the temptation for a hip jump was just too much.
Wayne from One Giant Leap making sure none of the digging volunteers go hungry. This man knows how to bbq – thanks Wayne.
Cutting in a corner towards the top of the new track.
Free lunch, free exercise and amazing view – what more could you want from a Bank Holiday Sunday? View from the new track towards Llangollen.
To ride the tracks take a look at the One Giant Leap website and get in touch with Martin. Martin’s arranging regular uplift days and recommends you join the club. Non club members are no longer allowed to ride the track outside of official events.
Thanks to Martin and Wayne for a good days digging. They really do look after their volunteers.
